Time flies....

I’ve read a couple blogs - MAHA and the Old MD Girl - that have reflected back on the last ten years of their lives. As I read through their trials and tribulations, I thought about all that I’ve done in the past ten years and thought maybe I would give this a try as well. So here goes….

1999 - 2000 – graduated high school and moved to Tucson, Arizona. I worked as a telemarketer for a timeshare resort for the first few months – hated it! I then started working as a customer service representative for a call center that was a vender for GE, now Verizon(These two jobs could be the main reason I don’t call people as often as I should….) I started my first semester of community college while working full time. After a few months of taking phone calls, I moved up to an RTA analyst, basically I monitored all the people on the phones making sure they were taking calls in a timely manner, not keeping the customer on hold for too long and making sure the calls were coming in.

2001 – I moved from RTA analyst to RTA Helpdesk. This was a newly created department and we were in charge of handling outages. Anytime the phones/computers went down we would page everyone that needed to know and report the status every half hour. Somewhere in all this I got engaged and six months later we broke up and I moved out into my own, very first apartment. It was pretty cute, too. I then moved from this position into ITS as a computer technician. I really enjoyed this job and learned a lot from the awesome guys I worked with. I was still taking classes at PCC and working full time. My goal was to get my associates, transfer to University of Arizona and then get my bachelors and apply to law school. I found out that PCC offered a paralegal degree so I figured this would be a good way to go for me.

2002 - 2003 - Soon after moving out into my own apartment, I met my first husband and six months later we were married. Yes, not very smart, but oh well - I learned a lot from this marriage. I continued pursuing my degree while working full time, but I started taking some crime scene management courses on the weekends and really enjoyed them. I even thought about joining the FBI, but I was still too young and needed a bachelor’s degree.

2004 – My last semester at PCC I started an internship at the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. I was basically in charge of retrieving a looooong list of documents that was needed for an upcoming trial. It may have been some boring copy work, but the case was very interesting and it earned me an award for being part of the team. I was very honored considering I was just a little intern.

2005 – I finally finished my degree at PCC and applied for a position at the AG’s office as a paralegal working in the forfeiture area. I was hired on and quite my job as a IT technician. During this time I separated from my husband and moved into my own apartment. It was a time of new beginnings for me. I continued my education and started taking classes, mainly on-line, at Northern Arizona University. My degree was in criminal justice. I soon realized that my classes were limited so I decided to transfer to the UofA. I was still debating on going to law school, but was also tossing the idea of medical school around. I really enjoyed my psychology classes and was considering pursuing a degree in that and maybe go on to be a psychiatrist, but the FBI still had my interest and I decided that was my goal. I met with a few agents that gave me some great advice and information about the FBI and I finally figured out what I was going to do with my life…. Or so I thought.

2006 – During the summer of 2006, I reconnected with Brad, as he was traveling through Tucson. We hit it off and a relationship blossomed into something serious, and a long distance relationship wasn’t going to be possible, so I decided that I would move to Kansas. I researched the local universities and found that I could still get my psychology degree there and apply for the FBI. The first few months I rode in the truck with Brad and loved it. I really didn’t want to find a job and start school, but knew that wasn’t an option. Over Christmas Brad proposed!

2007 – I started working at a local law firm as a transcriptionist. A pretty far cry from a paralegal, but I couldn’t find anything that would work with my schedule and they said they would be flexible, until I started school. They decided that they were not going to let me leave a half hour early so I could attend a class in Wichita – a 45 min drive from where I live, so I had arrived late to class. In one of my other classes, I overheard someone talking and say they needed an assistant and I jumped at the opportunity, and was hired on as an office assistant! Just my luck!

2008 – I decided that the FBI would not be good for family life and I was going to go into the forensic science field. The more chemistry and biology classes I took, the more I decided that I wanted to go to medical school. Brad and I got married in June! :o)

2009 – I began taking classes to apply to medical school, started shadowing different doctors to get a good idea of what different specialties do and continued working full time. Brad and I decided that since we don’t really have any mementoes of our wedding day because we didn’t have a wedding, we were going to have a little ceremony so my dad could walk me down the aisle and we could have our pictures and memories. We plan to have it summer of 2010. I plan to take the dreaded MCAT in May of 2010 and apply to medical school July 1 of 2010. This was the year of my first high school reunion. I didn’t go, this time, but maybe next time. We’ll see.

So this was the last ten years of my life in a nutshell. Hope you enjoyed the cliff notes version! :o)

Crafty....

One of my favorite hobbies, when I have the time, is crocheting.  I especially love crocheting afghans, though I'm not exactly sure why.  Maybe it's my unhealthy obsession with blankets?  I absolutely love blankets and can never have too many lying around the house.... I don't know, but that's what I like to crochet. I had a request from GK to see some of my work, so I thought I would share a few pictures with everyone.  I've done quite a few more than what I have put up here, but I don't have pictures of them at the moment.

Drum Roll Please......

Well as you all know I have been (not so) patiently waiting for my final grades to be posted so I can move on with my life.  :o)  Well, yesterday I decided that since I was already on the computer I would check to see if anything has been posted.  First I check to see what I got on my last psychology exam - 106 out of 100.  Sweet,  I finished with an A for the course!  Total count three A's and one unknown.    So I decide "what the heck, I'll see if my chemistry grade is posted as well."  I click on the final grade screen and went numb.  I could not believe my eyes.  How in the world did this happen?  The tears started to well up in my eyes, and my hands were shaking so badly that I couldn't hold the phone to call Brad.  He answered and told me to hang on while he put his headset on, and as I waited, I couldn't hold back the tears any longer.  Brad finally answered "Hi.  What are you doing?"  By this time I am crying and blurted out "I got an A in my organic chemistry class!"  Of course he didn't understand a single word I said so I had to repeat it "I got an A!  in chemistry!"  He started laughing at me and told me to calm down, but he was pretty proud of me.  I was so happy and shocked that I was shaking.  I didn't know what to do when I saw it on the screen, it was such a rush of all these emotions, relief, and a little bit of disbelief.  All I know is, I got the grade I studied so hard for and couldn't be happier.

Now, on to biochemistry!

One More Semester Down....

I know I haven't posted much lately, but I have finished up my classes and I am now not so patiently waiting for my final grades.  I'm pretty sure I ended with three A's and one B, but I'm not positive and it. is. killing. me!  I hate this waiting thing!

Now that classes are over with my days consist of going to work, going to gym, and going home.  It has been so nice, but boy the nights fly by!  I know it doesn't help that I get home at 7 and it's already dark, but they can slow down just a little!  Geesh.  I have enjoyed being able to catch up on my crocheting (no I'm not 80!) movies and tv!  It's so nice not having to use my brain for a little while!  <-- insert blonde joke here. :o)

The only other exciting thing going on I suppose is x-mas, which I still have to shop for.  At least there isn't much left to get.  The stores are so crazy this time of year!  We always say we are going to buy things all year long, but you know what?  We never do.  Maybe that is my new year's resolution.....

High Score?!?!?!?

Ok people, I just have to share this awesome news.  I took my final chapter exam in organic chemistry on Wednesday and got it back today.  I was a little worried about it, but it turned out to be easier than I thought it would be.  I knew I messed up a couple of parts, but still figured I did ok.  Well, I picked up my test today and found out that I was one of the few people who got the high score!  I about fainted.    The bad thing is that the class as a whole did poorly.  I feel kinda bad because I really like our professor and he genuinely wants his students to do well. There's not a lot of professors who really care how their students do, so when I don't do well I feel like I let him down too.  (Thankfully it's only been one test.)

But I am excited and wanted to share my news!

My Birthday - sort of

I have to admit that I have the sweetest, bestest, most awesomest husband. And I do realize that he will roll his eyes when he reads this, but oh well. Hi honey!

My birthday was this past Monday and because he wasn’t going to be home to celebrate it with me, we kinda made a weekend out of it. On Friday we rented movies and stayed up late watching them all, so of course we slept in a bit on Saturday. :o) When we got out of bed we went out for breakfast, ran some errands and then went home to study/veg out. Saturday night went to one of my favorite restaurants and had some yummy Italian food, then went home and vegged some more. Ahhhh I love relaxing! Sunday my sweet husband cooked lunch and dinner for us. He made goulash for lunch and a bean stew for dinner, both were awesome! We put up the Christmas tree and decorated a little bit around the house, and afterwards we played some Guitar Hero 5! It was a pretty enjoyable/relaxing weekend. I spent my real birthday working and then studying all night. I liked my weekend birthday better!

I wanted to share my beautiful birthday gifts with everyone:

The necklace is a black pearl – inside a real clam that we had to open to get to the pearl. The pearl symbolizes love, which I thought was pretty fitting. :o) My little stud picked that out for me.

I also got a really pretty fairy paperweight that says I love you to take to work, some comfy Tinker Bell pj's and a t-shirt. It was a very nice weekend and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Look what my sweet husband did....

He bought me some really pretty flowers! He surprised me with a bouquet before Thanksgiving too. *sigh* He's such a sweetheart. :o) Oh! shhh! Don't tell anybody though, it's a secret!
